In 1754 Josiah Wedgwood began to experiment with coloured creamware. He established his own factory, but often worked with others who did transfer printing. The Wedgwood company went on to produce pottery and dinnerware in many different and popular patterns. Well-known British artists were commissioned from time to time.

David Shepherd was selected to design a collection of plates honoring the World Wildlife Fund. This Wedgwood Wildlife Buffalo Plate is 10 3/4 inches in diameter and is in mint condition, with no chips, cracks, or restorations. The base markings are: "World Wildlife Fund, Buffalo, Specially designed by David Shepherd for the World Wildlife Fund." "Wedgwood of Etruria & Barlaston, Made in England".
