WEDGWOOD BASALT LADY TEMPLETON BUD VASE
Wedgwood's basalt, a hard, black, stone-like material known also as Egyptian ware or basaltes ware, was used for vases, candlesticks ,bowls, tea sets, and realistic busts of historical figures. Perfected by Wedgwood in 1768, their basalt pieces have been in continuous production.
You are purchasing a beautiful Wedgwood Basalt Vase, designed by Lady Templeton. Measuring 5 inches tall and 2 3/4 inches in diameter at its widest point, this 1800's antique bud vase is in excellent condition. The base markings are: "Wedgwood", with potter's marks. There appears to be a firing flaw on the surface underside of the base, which is not unusual for an item of this date. There is also a 1/2 inch chip in the rim of the base, which can be professionally repaired, if desired.
